About Me

Hi there and welcome to Hungry for More! My name is Ashley Harper Evans.  I am a 20-something year old wife, mom to two (Boxers that is!), foodie and fitness enthusiast.  I recently completed my second undergraduate degree in Nutrition & Food Science, after graduating with my first degree in Communication Arts: Broadcasting in 2009.  I am currently completing my dietetic internship at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida.

I am a distance runner, a weight lifter and a yoga instructor, all of which I use to stay fit.  This blog is a place to share my passion of living a healthy life the way God wants me to.  I know that I am far from perfect and am constantly working on doing better for Him.  If we focus our eating on Jesus, we can live the life that He plans for us, without the chains or heartache.

I began this blog in January 2010 as a way to reach my family and friends because Dustin and I were living eight hours south in Orlando, FL.  Dustin was playing minor league baseball in the Atlanta Braves organization, and at that time, was rehabilitating his shoulder after an intensive shoulder surgery the fall prior.  I wanted to use this blog to track his progress, let everyone know of our where a bouts, and also throw in a few exercise and nutrition tips that I found along the way.  Little did I know that I would find my calling through this blog.  As time went on, I found that I was writing more about nutrition than anything else.  The following summer, Dustin’s career unfortunately ended because his shoulder wasn’t responding to the rehab and back to school we would return in order for him to finish his degree.  I knew if ever, that was the perfect opportunity for me to return to school as well in order to do what I dreamed of doing: become a Registered Dietitian.

I believe that at times it’s not food that we are hungry for.  Today, we all seem to fill our stomachs so full of “food,” hoping to satisfy that empty feeling but for some reason it never goes away.  Maybe our bodies want more than the food we are giving it? Maybe it’s a relationship, a sense that someone cares or a sense of security? Or maybe it actually is food that our body is hungry for, real food, not all of this processed food that we are bombarded with everyday.  So often we try to fill these voids with all of the wrong things: chemicals, toxins, pesticides, etc., which are not only effecting us on the outside but secretly on the inside as well.  Through this blog I hope to bring you peace with eating rather than just another diet scam, which will in turn change how you look and feel forever. Keep in mind, it’s a lifestyle, not a diet!

Please know that this blog is my own personal experience and that I am in no way trying to tell you how to live your life or what works best; only what I have found to work for me.  I hope this blog helps show and bring you peace, joy, love, and a little bit of nutrition education at the same time!
